Cusack Ladies travelled in force to San Remo on Sunday 21
March 2004 for the annual Central Coast tournament. In their
first game a depleted team lost by one point to Clan - 1-2
to 0-4. In their second game they had a good victory over
Irish Australians by 6-8 to 0-1 and so qualified for the
final against their arch rivals Clan na Gael.
After the close encounter earlier on in the day hopes were
high for a reversal of that score line but it was not to
be. Against the wind in the first half the Cusacks defence
was bombarded by the continuous attacking of the Clan girls
and were behind at half time by 3-7 to 0-1. Backed by the
breeze in the second half more scores were expected from
the girls in red and there were some chances created but
unfortunately all were not availed of. Despite a goal by
Niamh Bonar and points by Mary Kiernan and Aine Foley Clan
ran out easy winners by 4-13 to 1-4.
All the team played their heart out and heads are still
up for the rest of the season. Cusacks Ladies were captained
by Mary Sexton and trained by Dan McMullen. The ladies squad
who travelled up the coast was as follows: Aine Foley (Cork),
Alison Hooban (Laois), Angela Kenneally (Kilkenny), Anne
Marie Cummins (Tipperary), Barbara McEvaney (Longford),
Bernie O'Donnell (Mayo), Betty Servis (Roscommon), Daveena
Doyle (Sydney), Deeanne Stephenson (Sydney), Eileen Morgan
(Cork), Eimer Daly (Cork), Fiona O'Neill (Clare), Fiona
Sinnott (Waterford), Kristy Flanagan (Sydney), Laura Connolly
(Galway), Lorraine O'Sullivan (Donegal), Margaret Meehan
(Clare), Mary Kiernan (Longford), Mary Sexton (Cork), Michelle
McMahon (Clare), Niamh Bonar (Tipperary), Roisin Cooper
(Wexford), Sinead Gordon (Mayo), Siobhan McCarthy (Kerry),
Siobhan Toolan (Sligo), Susie Fannon (Galway), Wenona McBride
(Cavan), and Yvonne McGonagle (Meath).
