Cusack's
Ladies Capture League Title
The
final whistle in the hurling game received a thunderous
welcome from the fans and it was music to the ears of the
girls as they warmed up for their final which took place
immediately afterwards. A unique treble was Cusacks aim
and with one already in the bag it was up to the girls to
add to it. Clann na Gael provided their usual uncompromising
opposition and it was anyone’s game at half time with the
score line reading Clann 1-3 to Cusacks 1-6. Cusacks goal
was well taken by Noelle Murphy from Wexford and some well
taken points from Sadie McCarthy from Cork added to their
score line. Assisted by the breeze in the second half Cusacks
continued to add to their scores whilst Clann fought back
gallantly. Great displays by the roaming Eithne Morrisey
and corner forward Claire Daly ensured that Cusacks came
out on top. Eimear McGlinchey was never troubled in goal
while Dee Stephenson, Anne Marie Daly and Roisin Cooper
were gallant in defence. It was a great team effort and
the applause that greeted the final whistle was welcomed
by all the girls in red and none more so than Captain, Niamh
Bonar, who was honoured by her parents attendance at the
game. The victory brought Cusacks ladies titles to a whopping
total of 6, having won League titles in 1992, 1993, 1994,
1996 and 1998. Four years is a long time between titles
(for Cusacks Ladies anyway!) so the drought is well and
truly over!!
