Unfortunately Cusack Ladies failed to retain their League
Trophy on Sunday 22 June at Princes Park in Auburn. In a
gigantic tussle against old foes Clan na Gael they lost
by 2 goals. Cusacks got off to a great start and were 2
points up early on in the game. Clan then hit 10 golden
minutes when they scored 3 goals and a couple of points
with the half time scoreline reading 3-2 to 0-2. Cusack
girls hit back in the second half and were unlucky not to
score a couple of goals. They enjoyed most of the possession
but despite a huge effort from their forwards failed to
convent it into scores. They got a goal and 4 points while
Clan added another 4 points to their tally with the final
score reading Clan 3-6 to Cusacks 1-6.
It
was a great team effort by the Cusack girls. Clan had a
very strong team but the Cusack girls rose to the challenge
superbly and from goal keeper Mary Connolly to full forward
Daveena Doyle they could not be faulted for spirit and courage.
Ruth Cahalane and player of the match Rosin Cooper were
the stars of the defence while Mary Sexton and captain Sinead
Griffin worked tirelessly at mid field. In the forwards
Sinead Mahon, Clare Ogle and Niamh Bonar impressed.
This
Cusack team had to field without injured full back Susan
Bermingham, suspended Katie McDermott and were also missing
their centre half back. Despite these severe setbacks they
adapted very well and the team and subs put in a fine performance.
Some players now leave to go travelling but coach Quanah
McBride is optimistic for the future and for Championship
glory in September.
