MENS FOOTBALL CENTRAL COAST FINAL REPORT
The
Michael Cusacks Mens football team went up to San Remo on
Sunday 26 March with great expectations after winning the
inaugural international rules blitz at Auburn earlier in
the month.
They had a good win over Young Irelands in their first game
of the day. Gareth Kelleher and Dermot Macken scored two
great goals as they ran out easy winners by 0-4 to 2-7.
Next up was a tough game against Clan na Gael which Cusacks
lost by 5 points. All was not lost though and as other results
went their way they ended up in the final against Cormac
McAnnalans. This was a repeat of last year's final and Cusacks
were keen for revenge. The game was played at a very fast
pace but with Cusacks always in control they ended up gallant
winners by 1-6 to 1-2. Haulie Kenny was captain supreme
and he was ably supported in midfield by Tom Breen. Karl
Kiernan was the worthy winner of the best and fairest award.
He contributed 2 points as did Seamus Clarke. Dermot Macken
scored a goal and a point and Podge O'Reilly and Barry Gallagher
manned the defence well.
But
this game was not about individual performances and coach
Dave Farrelly was keen to convey that this was a great and
gallant team effort. This was their fifth title up the coast
and they will be looking for more success in 2006. The Cusacks
mens squad on the day was as follows:
