For the first year ever the Central
Coast tournament held in San Remo on the 20th of March included
a camogie competition.. With many of the Cusack girls being
duel players the format of the competition made it hard
for the players involved with both the ladies and the camogie
teams. Nevertheless the games and results of the day showed
the depth of talent of the Cusack ladies.
This
was the first camogie tournament ever held in Australia
and once again Cusacks were to the fore. Their first game
was against Central Coast, which they lost by 4 points.
Next up was a game against Craogh Padraig which they won
easily by 10-6 to 3-2. They qualified for the final and
again played the Central Coast team who were just too strong
for them. Just before this game these same girls had played
their hearts out in the ladies football final and were instrumental
in Cusacks being victorious so it was a tired and leg weary
Cusacks camogie team who gave a courageous display in the
final. In a game played in near darkness at the end of a
long day, they showed tremendous heart and never gave up.
Despite this loss captain Ruth Cahalan is confident her
team will be back.
The
team was managed by Dee Stephenson and consisted of: Aine
McElroy, Daveena Doyle, Deirdre Fitzpatrick, Marie Keating,
Mary Shortall, Miriam Browne, Natasha Beegan, Roisin Cooper,
Ruth Cahalan, Sharon Reel, Yvonne Rooney and Yvonne Taylor.
